The Electrochemical Science & Engineering Group is a fast growing multi-disciplinary and inter-departmental group at the forefront of its field.
The role will include helping set up and supervising the testing of electrochemical cells, particularly lithium ion batteries, but also other types of batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, and redox flow cells. The role will include working with researchers to design, manufacture and run novel experiments including the design of thermal management systems at ambient temperatures (-40oC to +80oC). The role will also include working with researchers to design, manufacture and run novel experiments including the design of electrical circuits and controllers. The role will also involve managing the safety of testing electrical devices.
As part of the technical team, the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient running of the laboratory resources in a manner consistent with good laboratory practice and technique. The post-holder will also play a key role in establishing the group’s laboratory facilities.
You will be responsible for:
- the design and production of bespoke experiments including the design of electrical circuits, controllers, and thermal management systems.
- managing the establishment of new experimental facilities from inception through to delivery including a newly refurbished lab and refurbishing the groups existing lab
- management of the facilities allocated to the ESE Group, prioritising safety within the hazardous environment and ensuring smooth day to day running of laboratory activities.
- enabling research by acting as the designated person for ESE Group allocated facilities and, by working closely with the Technical Services and Laboratory Facilities Managers, suppliers and contractors, to plan and monitor works to ensure key deadlines are achieved.
